Builder

Jim KennyAlthough based in Wilmington, North Carolina, award winning Hagood Homes isn’t new to the Triangle… President Jim Kenny got his start in the building industry working for a national home builder in Raleigh in the late ‘80s. While Jim was overseeing the construction operations for multiple Raleigh neighborhoods, he was also forging strong relationships: he met the woman who was to become his wife, Troy Kenny, and he befriended co-worker and then company VP, Cliff Zinner.

hagoodlogoJim and Troy found early in their relationship that they shared a passion to create quality-filled homes. Troy was born with the creative talent to design timeless, award winning home plans; Jim was gifted with the skills and abilities to make those plans become reality. In 1996 Jim and Troy created Hagood Homes, Inc. The combination of inspiration, heart, and hard work has resulted in great success for the Kennys. Together they have won numerous Parade of Homes Awards and perfect scores for their designs and superior work. Their mission has always been to produce a quality product with integrity, and to maintain the solid reputation they have created. This mission has served them well.

Cliff ZinnerWhile Jim and Troy were building their business, Cliff Zinner began his own building business, Raleigh Durham Construction Company. The company opened in 1993 with the tagline of “The Non-Production Builder.” Raleigh Durham Construction has built its reputation home by home, focusing on the delivery of exceptional value. As with Jim and Troy, Cliff’s passion for creating quality homes has resulted in distinct success. Raleigh Durham Construction has been the recipient of a host of Parade of Homes Awards, as well as North Carolina Home Builders Association Grand Awards, Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Awards for achievements in housing, and a Capital Area Preservation Anthemion Award recognizing outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in historic preservation. Raleigh Durham Construction has been acknowledged by Triangle Business Journal with a Fast 50 Award, recognizing the company as one of the fastest growing private companies in the Triangle.

Cliff has served as President of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties; he was a founding member of the City of Durham Mentor-Protégé Program; he has been a member of the Durham Affordable Housing Coalition Board of Directors for over five years; and he is Immediate Past Chair of Urban Ministries of Wake County. Likewise, Jim has served as President of the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association. Jim, Troy, and Cliff created Hagood Hope for Children in 2004, a non-profit organization to help children around the world. Since its inception, Hagood Hope for Children has donated over six hundred thousand dollars to orphanages and other charities in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States. Locally, it has endowed the creation of the Children’s Waiting Room at the Open Door Clinic, the only free clinic in the area. It is also a major contributor to the Capital Campaign of Urban Ministries as well as Methodist Home for Children.

In 2000, Cliff teamed with Jim and Troy to build new homes in Wilmington. They built detached housing at Sentry Oaks, low maintenance single family and townhomes at Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation, and condominiums at Navigation Point in South Harbor Village on the Intracoastal Waterway. Having found success in these ventures, they are pleased to announce their newest partnership to develop and build the homes of Chapelwood in the beautiful setting of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Jim’s great grandfather, Johnson Hagood, was the creator of the first Hagood Home, built in 1841 in Barnwell, South Carolina. This living, breathing home, still filled with the spirit of inspiration, is now the home of Jim’s mother. The tradition and quality of that Hagood Home has set the precedence and the legacy for the Hagood Homes built today. Jim, Troy, and Cliff invite you to consider a Hagood Home for the place to enjoy your own legacy.

Designer

Troy KennyTroy Kenny, wife of Jim Kenny and co-owner of Hagood Homes, is the creative power behind this progressive home building company. Her talents have won numerous Parade of Homes Awards, in addition to the hearts of numerous homeowners.

“God has blessed me with a passion for home design since the age of five,” says Troy. “Jim often says that I have a real finesse for designing quaint homes that are much larger than they appear. The truth is that I feel homes that appear humble and timeless in design are more comfortable to live in. I design each home with the philosophy of offering more livability in less space.”

Special features incorporated into almost all Troy’s unique designs include:

  • Kitchens that inspire cooking and conversations with an adjoining view to family/guest activities
  • Family rooms with fireplaces and window walls as memorable focal points
  • Flexible rooms that can be adapted to your own personal desires, such as media rooms, craft areas, exercise/play spaces, or home offices
  • Owner retreats featuring spa style baths that soothe the senses and include abundant wardrobe storage
  • Furniture placement thoughtfully considered to function well for views and traffic flow
  • Outdoor living with porches and terraces where you can dine, relax, and entertain
  • Abundant windows to capture sunshine and endless views

“My desire is that home owners come to appreciate the timeless design and living my plans offer,” says Troy.
